The Majestic12 Conspiracy Theory
Majestic 12 (also known as M12, MJ 12, MJ XII or Majority 12) is an alleged super secret group of twelve scientists, military leaders, and government officials, supposedly formed in 1947 by the then U.S President Harry Truman. The purpose of this group of international men and women was to investigate UFO's and extra terrestrial activity after the crash of a so called 'alien spaceship' near Roswell in New Mexico,July 1947. The Majestic 12 theory has become a fascinating part of conspiracy rumours of an ongoing government cover up of UFO information and disinformation. But how can it possibly have been kept secret all this time? Is it just a task force aiming to misinform the public to hide another agenda? Can it be that we have indeed had visitors from outer space?
Most people will probably conclude that the whole idea is a product of over some very overactive imaginations.
But is it?
The Evidence
There was absolutely no evidence of Majestic 12's existence until 1984, when a portfolio of documents were leaked to conspiracy theorists. Amongst the documents were details of MJ-12's formation date (September 1947), authorised by President Truman himself in a signed memo.(see picture opposite)
After analysis by the FBI a large number of the documents were deemed bogus, although not all could be classified as fake. In 1985 more documents referring to MJ-12 were uncovered in the US national archives, again the validity of the documents are hotly debated. Some of the papers include the naming of members of MJ-12, Albert Einstein is one of the notable inclusions. The documents also have a wide variety of subject matters, from the government funding of the organisation, to guidelines on etiquette when meeting an alien being (!).
New revelations were springing up regularly, with most being dismissed by both government officials (who to this day deny all knowledge) and conspiracy theorists alike.
The Cutler/Twining Memo
In 1985, amateur ufologists Jamie Shandera and William Moore began receiving post cards with New Zealand postmarks and with a return address of "Box 189, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia". The cards contained a series of coded messages referring to "Reeses Pieces" and "Suitland" that Shandera and Moore were unable to decipher .
A few months later, a request from UFO researcher Stanton Friedman unlocked the mystery. Friedman asked Moore and Shandera to examine some new declassified Air Force documents at the National Archives (NARA) repository in Suitland, Maryland that he could not see himself due to prior obligations. Was it a coincidence that the head archivist at Suitland was named 'Reese'?
After a few days in Suitland, Shandera and Moore discovered yet another MJ-12 document, the so-called Cutler/Twining memo, dated July 14, 1954.
The memo was discovered in box 189 of the record group. In this memo, NSC Executive Secretary and Eisenhower’s National Security Advisor Robert Cutler wrote to Air Force Chief of Staff (and alleged MJ-12 member) Nathan Twining to advise of a change of plans in a scheduled MJ-12 briefing. The memo included procedural details that only a high security level government official would be likely to know, it also had official declassification markings making the allegations of a hoax or planted document look dubious.
The truth is out there?
There can be no doubt that World governments have deliberately misinformed the public over the years regarding UFO's and how much (or otherwise) they actually know. You only have to look at the US governments' handling of the Roswell incident to realise this (they changed their version of events three times).
Until this day the debate rages about the existence of Majestic 12, their purpose, identity, and the validity of the evidence recovered so far. The US government flatly refuses to acknowledge its existence (sound familiar?), whilst some of the less outlandish documents are very hard to prove as fake.
So, Majestic 12 - an ongoing conspiracy to cover up the truth about alien contact and technologies, or simply one of the best hoaxes ever conceived?
Personally i do believe that these twelve individuals could well be a secret organisation, however i'm doubtful if it has much to do with aliens and spaceships. I think its far more likely that even if it does exist, it may be to more to do with experimental technologies like the Aurora Project. Having said that, some of the documentation is frankly perplexing. I doubt if anyone will ever find out the whole truth.
