The Majestic12 Conspiracy
71
Majestic 12 (also known as M12, MJ 12, MJ XII or Majority 12) is an alleged super secret group of twelve scientists, military leaders, and government officials, supposedly formed in 1947 by the then U.S President Harry Truman. The purpose of this group of international men and women was to investigate UFO's and extra terrestrial activity after the crash of a so called 'alien spaceship' near Roswell in New Mexico,July 1947. The Majestic 12 theory has become a fascinating part of conspiracy rumours of an ongoing government cover up of UFO information and disinformation. But how can it possibly have been kept secret all this time? Is it just a task force aiming to misinform the public to hide another agenda? Can it be that we have indeed had visitors from outer space?
Most people will probably conclude that the whole idea is a product of over some very overactive imaginations.
But is it?
The Evidence
There was absolutely no evidence of Majestic 12's existence until 1984, when a portfolio of documents were leaked to conspiracy theorists. Amongst the documents were details of MJ-12's formation date (September 1947), authorised by President Truman himself in a signed memo.(see picture opposite)
After analysis by the FBI a large number of the documents were deemed bogus, although not all could be classified as fake. In 1985 more documents referring to MJ-12 were uncovered in the US national archives, again the validity of the documents are hotly debated. Some of the papers include the naming of members of MJ-12, Albert Einstein is one of the notable inclusions. The documents also have a wide variety of subject matters, from the government funding of the organisation, to guidelines on etiquette when meeting an alien being (!).
New revelations were springing up regularly, with most being dismissed by both government officials (who to this day deny all knowledge) and conspiracy theorists alike.
The Cutler/Twining Memo
In 1985, amateur ufologists Jamie Shandera and William Moore began receiving post cards with New Zealand postmarks and with a return address of "Box 189, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia". The cards contained a series of coded messages referring to "Reeses Pieces" and "Suitland" that Shandera and Moore were unable to decipher .
A few months later, a request from UFO researcher Stanton Friedman unlocked the mystery. Friedman asked Moore and Shandera to examine some new declassified Air Force documents at the National Archives (NARA) repository in Suitland, Maryland that he could not see himself due to prior obligations. Was it a coincidence that the head archivist at Suitland was named 'Reese'?
After a few days in Suitland, Shandera and Moore discovered yet another MJ-12 document, the so-called Cutler/Twining memo, dated July 14, 1954.
The memo was discovered in box 189 of the record group. In this memo, NSC Executive Secretary and Eisenhower’s National Security Advisor Robert Cutler wrote to Air Force Chief of Staff (and alleged MJ-12 member) Nathan Twining to advise of a change of plans in a scheduled MJ-12 briefing. The memo included procedural details that only a high security level government official would be likely to know, it also had official declassification markings making the allegations of a hoax or planted document look dubious.
The truth is out there?
There can be no doubt that World governments have deliberately misinformed the public over the years regarding UFO's and how much (or otherwise) they actually know. You only have to look at the US governments' handling of the Roswell incident to realise this (they changed their version of events three times).
Until this day the debate rages about the existence of Majestic 12, their purpose, identity, and the validity of the evidence recovered so far. The US government flatly refuses to acknowledge its existence (sound familiar?), whilst some of the less outlandish documents are very hard to prove as fake.
So, Majestic 12 - an ongoing conspiracy to cover up the truth about alien contact and technologies, or simply one of the best hoaxes ever conceived?
Personally i do believe that these twelve individuals could well be a secret organisation, however i'm doubtful if it has much to do with aliens and spaceships. I think its far more likely that even if it does exist, it may be to more to do with experimental technologies like the Aurora Project. Having said that, some of the documentation is frankly perplexing. I doubt if anyone will ever find out the whole truth.
- Special Report: Interview with Rainbow Eagle (sd)
Our next, very fortunate, interview from the 2011 UFO Conference in Arizona is with a someone who speaks on ancient Native American beliefs, Mr. Rainbow Eagle. He claims to be an Okla-Choctaw American Indian and a "Wisdom Keeper," and says to be honored with the solemn responsibility of the Ancient Native American Peace Shield. Part of the responsibilities of the position are the teaching of Native American truths which include fascinating information about the long-held belief in "space people" by many Native American cultures. We had an all-too-brief opportunity to sit with Rainbow Eagle and get his take on the native American Indian beliefs regarding the space people, abductions, and some unique insight into what he believes will be a significant time of change, 2012.
- Special Report: Interview with Stanton Friendman (sd)
Our next interview from the 2011 UFO Conference in Arizona features a fascinating conversation with Stanton Friedman, on the subject of "UFO Debunkers." Mr. Friedman is a nuclear physicist and one of the original civilian investigators of the Roswell incident. He is often credited for brining the events in Roswell to popular awareness due to his research and and diligent fact-finding. There are few people in UFOology with longer resume than Stanton's nearly five decades of involvement. During that time, he's become frustrated with what he feels are errant arguments of habitual debunkers. He shares some of his thoughts on that subject and more.
- Special Report: Interview with Dr. John Alexander (sd)
Our first interview from the 2011 UFO Conference in Arizona is with the esteemed Dr. John Alexander, a retired US Army Colonel for whom few ATS members will need little or no introduction. In spite of some frustrating hardships in our attempts to get some quality interviews at this event, we came back with several gems, and our chat with this legendary UFOlogist is but one example. He provides us with some insight on his new book, "UFOs: Myths, Conspiracies, And Realities," discusses UFO debunkers and skeptics, laments over the often too-gullible true-believers, and gets into the issue of disclosure.
- Conspiracy Chicks 07 - Protest The Pope!
Welcome to another addition of the Conspiracy Chicks with Julie and... uh... (where's Ashley?) In this episode we feature an in-depth interview with ATS citizen journalist, LarryLove, and his experiences covering the Pope protest in England. We also cover the explosive, "one step closer to disclosure" news coming out of the National Press Club, and getting international news covering, more leaked emails causing problems, and a rare interview with the bashful and elusive creator of the ATS Live radio show.
- Conspiracy Chicks 06 - NZ Earthquake! (std)
In this episode, Julie interviews two ATS members from New Zealand for a first-hand account on what they experienced during the strong earthquake that ravaged their area. Also, coverage of 9/11 controlled demolition conspiracy theories, a Russian UFO "insider," and a look at what prompted an ATS member to tattoo our logo on their leg.

Thank you. Your article leaves me with food for much thought.
I never understand why so much is deemed 'secret'. Regardless if aliens have visited earth or not it is logical to believe in the potential existence of aliens. Therefore it is also logical and justified to create a department of the govt (regardless of country) whose job it is to investigate.
It also makes sense for this organisation to consist of representative from numerous countries.
This organisation does not need to be kept secret even if its findings do!
Hello jondav:
I've paid little attention to the theory of visitors from space other than the space rocks that have been collected.
The "Big Bang" alledgedly happened 13.7 billion yrs ago.
Our earth is only about 4 billion yrs old and we alledgeldy "conscious" creatures just appeared about 35k ago, only a nano second ago in geologic time,
as Homo'sapienssapiens. I have to think that if it took this long for us to appear and evolve to this primitive state of life, it wouldn't be too far fetched to think that other life in our universe has had no more or less time to exceed our level of ability to travel in the cosmos than we.
Given another billion yrs of evolution "WE" may be able to ply the depths and breadth of our galaxy but to imagine that we could reach further, unless we continued to evolve to become a "singularity" that existed as naught but intelligent energy, "Starwars" is but our imagination working overtime.
Interesting hub...voted it up.
